Courtesy telephones

located in residential halls- The in hall phones provide access to Campus Police through 9-1-1 service. In addition, residents may make local calls from these telephones. Costs to repair vandalized phones in these areas will be charged to the community. Vandalism to life safety equipment (including hall phones) is finable at a minimum of $500.

Emergency 911 telephones

The University operates a 9-1-1 emergency telephone line (by using campus telephones) that directly contacts the ASU Police. ASU Police is the agency to contact to report fires, thefts, and emergencies. ASU Police is also the contact for Tempe Paramedics.

Safety Escort Service (SES)

Associated Students of ASU (ASASU), Undergraduate Student Government, provides an evening escort service seven days a week for persons who may need to be walking alone on campus. Please use this service by calling 480-965-1515, or ask a friend to walk with you after hours.

Surveillance cameras

Surveillance cameras may be located in residence halls and are in compliance with Arizona State University’s Policies and Procedures: ASUPD 201-06: Governing Electronic Safety and Security Systems. These cameras are here to make residents safer. Please do not tamper with them.

Crime Statistics

ASU publishes crime statistics each year. The ASU Reports are available online at www.asu.edu/dps/police/crimestats.htm. Residential Life and other campus agencies cooperate with DPS in reporting crime information in order to make accurate statistics available. Please make every effort to report crimes to DPS and to a Residential Life staff member.

Front Desks

Front Desks are staffed 24 hours a day with staff members who sign-in guests, respond to questions, and notify duty staff in the event of an emergency.

Community Assistants

Community Assistants are on duty every evening as a resource and can assist in emergency or crisis situations. These staff members live in hall and perform community walks in and around each building to check exits, emergency lights, common areas, and hallways. Community Assistants are on duty from 5:00 pm to 8:00 am weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends.

Community Directors and Assistant Community Directors

Community Directors and Assistant Community Directors serve as resources for Community Assistants on duty. These professional staff members live in the halls and are on duty from 5:00 pm to 8:00 am weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends.

On campus police department

All ASU campuses are equipped with police officers who have specific jurisdiction in all ASU property. These officers have the same powers and responsibilities as any police officer in the State of Arizona. They are a wonderful resource for safety and security at ASU.

Assembly Area

In the event that it is necessary to evacuate the halls, locations are designated as assembly areas for residents in each hall. Emergency evacuation procedures are reviewed and discussed at hall floor meetings.

Safe and Secure Residence Halls

All rooms have exterior doors have locks that correspond to a key that only the residents of that room have. All doors have one-way peep holes so residents can screen who they let into their rooms.
