Tracy Fessenden has been invited by the Lilly Endowment at the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture to serve as one of two mentors for the next class (2009-2011) of Young Scholars in American Religion. Eugene Clay and Agnes Kefeli have been awarded an IHR seed grant for their project, “From the Volga to the Salt River: Christian and Muslim Spiritual Songs of Russia” (April 2008). Eugene Clay's research seminar next year on "What's in a Name? The Name of God in History, Philosophy and Scinece," was selected for funding by the Graduate College, and he will serve as the organizer for a conference on this topic during the coming year (April 2008). Eugene Clay has been selected as a fellow for a NEH summer institute for this coming summer sponsored by the New York Public Library on: “Sources for Russian and Soviet Visual Culture 1860-1935 Study, Teaching and Education” (March 2008). Chris Duncan has been invited to participate as a fellow at KITLV in the "In Search of Middle Indonesia" research program as part of his research for a planned book on conflict and post-conflict dynamics in Tobelo, North Maluku. Aurelio Espinosa has been awarded a Franklin Research Grant of $4000 from the American Philosophical Society, which he will use in his initial field research in central Mexico this summer where he is interested in looking at some of the local shrines and churches in villages that responded to the royal questionnaires of the sixteenth and mid-eighteenth century (March 2008). Aurelio Espinosa has been chosen as the ACMRS (Ariz Center for Med and Ren Studies) Faculty Fellow for AY 08-09. Professor Espinosa's project is entitled, "Holy Ordinary: A Comparative Analysis of Local Religion in the Spanish Empire and Modern Mexico." Anne Feldhaus spent the academic year 2007-08 on an NEH Fellowship for a project entitled The Birth of a Region: Maharashtra in the 13th Century. Agnes Kefeli has just been informed that she has been chosen for one of the 12 Kluge fellowships awarded by the Library of Congress and she will continue her work on matters related to Islam in Tartarstan (March, 2008). Daniel Ramirez, along with Paul Espinosa (TCLS) and Daniel Cutrara (FMS) have been selected as IHR fellows this coming year for their project, “The Dawning of Liberty" (April 2008). Daniel Ramirez has been chosen as this coming year's fellow under the Louisville Institutes First book Grant for Minority Scholars Program (March 2008). Juliane Schober, co- PI, with B. Broome, R. Millsap, S. Neuberg, D. Schaefer, Th. Taylor, G. Thomas, C. Warner, and M. Winkelman, have been awarded a $ 643,604 grant from The National Science Foundation, Directorate for Social, Behavioral/Economic Science, (2008-2010) for their project: "The Dynamics of Religions and Conflict: a Multidisciplinary, Empirical Approach" (2008). Tisa Wenger has been chosen for the Young Scholars in American Religion Program supported by the Lilly Endowment at the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture (2009-2011). Mark Woodward received a Fulbright Fellowship for Lecturing and Research: Islamic Political Thought, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (March 2008 - September 2008) |
